On Ashar 29, 2083, the newly appointed representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to Nepal, Shree Ram Hari Das, presented his credentials to Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal.
Das, a citizen of Sri Lanka, has been serving as the interim representative of UNFPA in Nepal for the past year and has taken over as the full representative since July 2026. He has over 23 years of international experience in strategic leadership, population programs, and humanitarian assistance in various countries in Asia and Africa.
During the formal presentation of credentials, Minister Khanal and Representative Das expressed their commitment to continuing the strong partnership between the Government of Nepal and UNFPA. They discussed strategic cooperation in areas such as population and development, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and evidence-based policy making.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of addressing Nepal’s changing demographic landscape and strengthening the demographic data system and analysis for inclusive and sustainable development.
Foreign Minister Khanal highlighted the importance of Nepal’s long-standing partnership with UNFPA in advancing population and development priorities and strengthening the health system.
He also emphasized that strategic cooperation with UNFPA and other partners is essential in addressing Nepal’s changing demographic trends and integrating demographic changes and population dynamics into development plans.
UNFPA has been partnering with the Government of Nepal since 1971, supporting national efforts to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights, promote gender equality, empower young people, strengthen population data systems, and ensure that no one is left behind in development.
