On Ashar 30, the Kathmandu District Court found Rajesh Ahiraj (also known as Rajesh Jha), the former Chief of Province 2, guilty of rape.

The court, presided over by Judge Chandrakant Paudel, delivered the verdict on Sunday. However, the court did not announce the sentence and has scheduled another hearing for Ashar 32 to determine the sentence.

Ahiraj is a former journalist and a Madhesi politician. He was appointed as the Chief of Province 2 by the then KP Sharma Oli-led government on Falgun 7, 2077.

A woman had filed a complaint against Ahiraj on Jestha 4, 2081, alleging that he had raped her at her residence in Nayabaneswor, Kathmandu. Ahiraj had filed a counter-case against the woman, accusing her of attempting to defame him.

He was arrested by the police on Shrawan 4, 2082. Based on the police investigation, the government attorney’s office in Kathmandu had filed a rape case against Ahiraj.

On Srawan 14, 2082, the Kathmandu District Court, presided over by Judge Pitambar Sharma, had ordered Ahiraj to be sent to judicial custody. He has been in custody at the Dilli Bazaar jail since then.
