On Ashar 30, contract and daily wage workers protested against the government’s decision to remove them from their positions.
The government’s decision affects around 57,000 workers across the country, including those working in the education and health sectors.
Akhil Nepal Government Temporary Contract and Daily Wage Workers’ Union President Kashiraj Shrestha stated that the decision would result in around 200,000 people losing their jobs.
Reasons Behind the Protest
The workers are protesting against the government’s plan to remove them and hire new employees through outsourcing.
Shrestha claimed that the government’s decision was made to benefit contractors and that the union would not accept it.
He also mentioned that some contract and daily wage workers have been serving for 25 years and that the government’s decision would unfairly affect them.
Demand for Social Security
Shrestha pointed out that contract and daily wage workers do not receive social security benefits, despite a Supreme Court order to provide them.
The workers protested in front of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Finance, demanding that the government reconsider its decision.
