On Ashar 30, Prime Minister Balen Shah directed the vice-chancellors of seven universities to implement reforms, maintain financial discipline, and ensure good governance.

During a joint meeting with the vice-chancellors of Tribhuvan University, Sudurpashchim University, Purwanchal University, Pokhara University, Rajarshi Janak University, Madhya-Pashchim University, and Agriculture and Forestry University at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singh Durbar, Kathmandu, Prime Minister Shah instructed them to organize convocation ceremonies in all seven provinces in line with the spirit of federalism.

Key Directives

The Prime Minister directed the universities to reduce the backlog of pending tasks, maintain financial discipline, and recover government funds and lands that have been misused or encroached upon.

He also instructed the vice-chancellors to protect the university’s properties and ensure that the academic environment is not affected by party politics.

Commitments from Vice-Chancellors

The vice-chancellors expressed their commitment to keeping the academic environment free from party politics and ensuring good governance.

They also pledged to keep professors, staff, and students away from party politics and focus on constructive, disciplinary, and academic work.

The vice-chancellors committed to implementing reforms in administration, finance, and academics, ensuring transparency, and reducing the backlog of pending tasks.

They also agreed to provide at least 10% scholarships to students from marginalized and targeted groups, which will be implemented in all affiliated colleges, not just university campuses.

Implementation Plan

The vice-chancellors committed to implementing the academic calendar, conducting admissions, classes, and exams on time, and publishing exam results within a month.

Minister of Education, Science, and Technology Sashmit Pokharel directed the vice-chancellors to submit a clear action plan within the next seven days to improve the quality of higher education.

Minister Pokharel emphasized the need for all vice-chancellors to work together as a team to improve higher education in Nepal.
