A lawmaker from the ruling party has raised concerns over the increasing house rent in Kathmandu. Ramesh Prasai questioned the basis for determining the rent, citing the high cost of small rooms.

He asked how the rent for a small room could be set at Ashar 8,000, 9,000, or 10,000 and what criteria were used to determine these prices. Prasai pointed out that the current system for determining house rent is not based on any specific criteria, except for the landlord’s discretion.

This issue affects not only the general public but also students who come from remote areas to study, daily wage laborers, and low-income individuals. Prasai emphasized that the government should focus on establishing a scientific and fair method for determining house rent.

The lawmaker criticized the government for not taking any initiative to address this issue, despite being active in collecting taxes. He stressed that the government needs to take immediate action to regulate house rent and ensure that it is fair and reasonable for all parties involved.
