Two owners of Annapurna Sugar Mill, located in Dhanakaul of Sarlahi, have been arrested by the District Police Office. Shailendra Gupta and Vinod Sah Kalwar, the owners of the mill, were taken into custody on the basis of a complaint filed by the sugarcane farmers.
The farmers had complained that the mill had not paid them for their sugarcane for a long time, leaving them financially strained. According to DSP Ved Prasad Gautam, the owners were arrested on charges of fraud.
'The farmers had complained that the mill owed them millions of rupees and that thousands of farmers were affected by the non-payment,' DSP Gautam said. The police have stated that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
The arrested owners will face legal action for the alleged fraud. The sugarcane farmers have been complaining about not receiving their payment for years, which has caused them significant financial hardship.
