Three members of the same family have been arrested by the police in Dhanusha on charges of cheating a bank out of Rs 40 million.
According to DSP Rupak Khadka of the District Police Office, Dhanusha, the arrested individuals are 53-year-old Gopal Sah, his 48-year-old wife Rekha Sah, and their 32-year-old son Hareram Sah.
Gopal was arrested from a hotel in Janakpur, while Rekha was taken into custody from a border point in Nagarain, and Hareram was arrested in Kathmandu.
Allegations of Bank Fraud
The police said that Gopal had taken a plot of land from Govinda Kumar Sah of Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City-2 as collateral and obtained a loan of Rs 9.9 million from the bank.
However, without the knowledge of the landowner, Gopal and his family members mortgaged the same plot to the bank and obtained a loan of Rs 40 million.
During a search of Gopal’s house in Janakpur, the police recovered 50 land ownership certificates, 18 citizenship certificates, a laptop, and various other documents.
The police said that an investigation is underway against the three arrested individuals.
