Nepal’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment is set to implement a model agriculture programme in 10 municipalities across the Madhesh Province, aiming to provide direct services to farmers.

Agriculture Minister Gita Chaudhary stated that the programme will prioritise agricultural research, technology transfer, and organic farming. Chaudhary made the announcement while addressing a high-level meeting with Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav, where she requested the selection of at least 10 municipalities for the programme’s implementation.

Chaudhary emphasized that the programme will focus on implementing policies rather than just formulating them. She added that the programme aims to increase agricultural production, provide farmers with modern technology, and promote organic farming.

The selected municipalities will receive integrated programmes, including production enhancement, technical services, training, and technology transfer. Chaudhary also highlighted the government’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, soil conservation, and safe food production.

She stressed the need for effective coordination between the federal, provincial, and local governments to achieve sustainable development in the agriculture sector. Chaudhary also expressed her commitment to addressing the suggestions received from the provincial government with priority.
