Despite the growing use of mobile phones, email, and social media, the traditional postal service in Kailali has seen a significant increase in usage.
According to the Postal Directorate of Kailali, in the fiscal year 2082/83, a total of 127,620 letters and postal items were imported and exported.
Statistics show that 63,810 postal items were exchanged through the Postal Directorate, with the majority being registered letters, totaling 52,699.
Information Officer Anish Tamang stated that letter services to and from foreign countries are also ongoing, with 470 letters imported and exported.
The office also provides an express mail service (EMS), which guarantees delivery within 24 hours, and has handled 2,723 items in the past year.
Regulation and Revenue
The Postal Directorate has also been regulating the communication sector, issuing licenses and permits to various media outlets.
In the past year, 21 online media outlets, 37 press representatives, and 15 FM radio stations have received licenses and permits.
The directorate has also collected revenue of Rs 64,319,903 from ticket sales and other sources.
Challenges and Future Plans
Despite limited resources and manpower, the Postal Directorate has been providing continuous service.
Director Siddharaj Joshi stated that the government has planned to improve and modernize the postal service, which is included in the 100-day work plan.
He expressed his confidence that with modernization and increased resources, the postal service can be made more efficient and effective.
