Nepal’s Music Royalty Collection Society has urged action against the unauthorized use of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate and distribute songs digitally.
The society has called on creators to register and update their song catalogs, and has asked those affected to file formal written complaints.
Executive Director Sagar Pandey stated that the society has received numerous verbal complaints about AI-generated songs being uploaded to the internet without permission.
Some individuals have filed complaints with the cyber bureau, but Pandey emphasized that written complaints are necessary for the society to take action against copyright infringement.
Pandey explained that once a complaint is received, the society can pursue copyright claims and work to remove the infringing content from digital platforms.
AI-Generated Songs on the Rise
Recently, there has been an increase in AI-generated songs being uploaded to the internet, often without the knowledge or consent of the original creators.
This trend has led to concerns about copyright infringement, with the European Union and other countries taking steps to address the issue.
Pandey noted that Nepal can also take proactive measures to address this problem.
