Nepali Congress Holds ‘Green Run’ to Raise Climate Change Awareness

Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the ‘Green Run’ competition was organized not only to raise awareness about climate change but also to make a commitment.

Speaking at the event held in Lalitpur on the occasion of the memorial day of BP Koirala, the founding leader of the Nepali Congress, Thapa said that the concept of conservation and nationalization of natural resources such as forests and land was introduced by Koirala himself.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

Thapa said that the Nepali Congress has reaffirmed its commitment to the concept of sustainable development and ensuring justice for natural resources, as envisioned by BP Koirala.

He also said that the party is fully committed to the concept of inclusiveness, which was implemented by BP Koirala seven decades ago.

On the occasion, Thapa awarded cash prizes to the winners of the competition. Mukesh Bahadur Pal, who came first in the 5km race starting from UN Park in Lalitpur, was awarded Rs 50,000 in cash.

Narendra Singh Rawal and Sanjay Shrestha, who came second and third respectively, were awarded Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000 in cash.

Thapa himself participated in the competition.

Humanitarian Fund Established

The Nepali Congress has also announced the establishment of a humanitarian fund to support single women and children who have been left homeless.

Thapa said that the party has collected Rs 1 million from its members for the fund and more information will be provided at a program to be held at the National Assembly Hall on Thursday.

The Central Policy Research and Training Institute, led by Vice-President Vishwa Prakash Sharma, organized a program that highlighted the national priority, policy arrangements, awareness, and alertness needed to address climate change.

Participants were also distributed various types of plants during the event.

A painting competition on climate change was also organized on the occasion.

The Nepali Congress has also announced that it will hold a special program at the National Assembly Hall at 2:00 pm tomorrow on the occasion of BP Memorial Day.
