Nepali Congress Factions Clash in Bara

Nepali Congress factions clashed in Bara on Tuesday, with party workers from two rival groups engaging in a physical altercation.

The clash occurred at the party’s office in Kalaiya, with both sides accusing each other of starting the violence.

Dispute Over Party Office

The dispute began when acting president Manoj Bhatt’s faction called a meeting of the party’s working committee, which was scheduled to take place at the party office.

However, the rival faction, led by suspended president Rajesh Yadav, had organized a separate event, a women’s conference, at the same location.

Bhatt accused Yadav’s faction of deliberately organizing the event to disrupt the meeting and create a confrontation.

Yadav, on the other hand, claimed that Bhatt’s faction had tried to disrupt the women’s conference and that his supporters had only acted in self-defense.

Power Struggle

The clash is the latest manifestation of a power struggle within the Nepali Congress party.

Bhatt and Yadav were both elected to their positions at the party’s 14th general convention, but they have been at odds since the party’s special general convention.

Yadav was suspended by the party’s central disciplinary committee for allegedly working against the party’s candidate in the February 21 representative assembly election.

Bhatt, who was appointed acting president by the central committee, has been trying to assert his authority, but Yadav has refused to recognize his suspension and has continued to act as president.

The police were called in to intervene in the clash, and the situation was brought under control.

However, the meeting that Bhatt’s faction had called was unable to take place.
