Nepal Medical Education Commission Vice-Chairman Appointment Sparks Controversy

A prominent doctor has threatened to go on a hunger strike over the appointment of the vice-chairman of the Nepal Medical Education Commission.

Dr Govinda Kesi has issued a five-point demand and has given the government an ultimatum until 7 Shrawan to address his concerns.

Dr Kesi has demanded the immediate removal of the recently appointed vice-chairman, Dr Devendra Khatry, who is a retired Nepal Army officer.

He has also called for the amendment of the controversial provisions of the Medical Education Act and the cancellation of the decision to cut scholarships and increase the number of private medical college seats.

Dr Kesi has argued that the appointment of Dr Khatry was made without following the proper selection process and has compromised the integrity and impartiality of the commission.

He has also demanded the implementation of the provision of the Medical Education Act, 2075, which aims to make medical education completely non-profit.

Dr Kesi has pointed out that even in developed countries like the US, healthcare and medical education are considered public services and are not run for profit.

He has also demanded the implementation of the agreements made with the previous governments and the expansion of healthcare and education services in the remote and border areas.

Dr Kesi has also called for action against those responsible for the heinous crimes committed in 2082 Bhadra, including murder, arson, and looting.

He has also demanded a fair investigation into the corruption and crimes committed by high-ranking politicians and officials since 2046.
