A 9-day-long protest against meter tariffs in Nepal has been suspended after a 9-point agreement was reached between the protesters and the government.
The agreement was signed on Friday, Ashar 1, 2083, after a team of protesters, who had been marching from Janakpur, met with a government team led by Secretary Pushkar Sapkota at the Prime Minister’s Office in Kathmandu.
The protest, which began on Ashar 25, 2083, in Tritiyagachhi, Janakpur, had been demanding a reduction in meter tariffs and compensation for those affected by the tariffs.
The agreement includes provisions for the government to provide compensation to those affected by the tariffs, to review the tariff structure, and to take action against those responsible for the anomalies in the meter reading system.
The protesters had been demanding that the government take action against the anomalies in the meter reading system, which they claimed had resulted in inflated bills for many households.
The agreement has been welcomed by the protesters, who have suspended their protest pending the implementation of the agreement.
