Gold prices have surged to a two-week high in the international market, driven by increased buying and rising tensions in the Middle East.
As of the latest update, gold prices have risen by 1.41%, or $57, to $4,131 per ounce. The price had previously reached its highest level since July 7.
Investors have been drawn to gold as a safe-haven asset, following a recent decline in prices. The ongoing tensions in the Middle East have also contributed to the increase in gold prices.
The conflict in the region has also put pressure on the oil market, with a warning from the Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen prompting three oil tankers to change course in the Red Sea. This has increased the risk to a critical global energy supply route.
The rise in oil prices has raised concerns about inflation, which could lead to higher interest rates in the US. While higher interest rates could put pressure on gold, the recent decline in prices has made it an attractive investment opportunity for buyers.
The US Federal Reserve is set to make a decision on interest rates at its upcoming meeting. Other precious metals have also seen an increase in prices, with silver rising by 1.9% to $59 per ounce, platinum by 2.4%, and palladium by 3%.
