Former Nepali Congress General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala has stated that the current leadership of the party bears the primary responsibility of addressing the prevailing dissatisfaction, disagreements, and disputes within the party and making the organization more robust, dynamic, and united.
Issuing a statement on the occasion of the 44th VP Memorial Day, Dr Koirala said that if the leadership can create an environment of dialogue, consensus, and cooperation while respecting the dignity of all leaders and cadres, the Nepali Congress can truly become united.
He warned that if the party suffers damage to its unity and faces the possibility of division, the current leadership will have to bear the political and moral responsibility.
Dr Koirala recalled that the late BP Koirala, after a long exile, had returned home prioritizing national interests and adopting a policy of national reconciliation, and that the Nepali Congress must now have the strength to face the complex national and international challenges the country is facing.
He emphasized that responsible political forces must work together with a long-term vision to steer the country in the right direction, without interfering with democratic institutions.
Dr Koirala also cautioned that the lack of understanding, mistrust, group-based unhealthy competition, and unnecessary disputes within the Nepali Congress can weaken the party and have a negative impact on the citizens, and that this danger must not be ignored.
He acknowledged that differences in opinion are natural in a democracy and that such differences should be seen as opportunities to reach a common conclusion, rather than as a basis for division.
