Dr Govinda KC has begun a hunger strike in Dhangadhi, demanding reforms in the medical education and health sectors.

Dr KC, who started his protest from the Krishna Temple in Dhangadhi, has accused the government of trying to privatize the health sector.

He has put forward a seven-point demand, including the removal of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the Martyr Dasharath Chand Medical Science University in Geta, Kailali.

Dr KC has also demanded the cancellation of the decision to increase the number of seats in private medical colleges without proper infrastructure and the implementation of a law to make medical education non-profit.

He has also called for the implementation of the written agreement reached with the previous government, ensuring the right to health of citizens in border areas, and a fair investigation into the vandalism and violence that took place during the Jena Andolan on Bhadra 23 and 24.

Background

Dr KC had previously planned to start his hunger strike from the Vyasa area of Darchula but was forced to return to Dhangadhi after being denied permission by Indian security forces.

He had also conducted a free health camp in Darchula for a few days before heading to Dhangadhi for his protest.
