Dharan’s Bhanchok Area Deserted After Bus Park Shifts to New Location

Dharan’s Bhanchok area, once bustling with activity, has become deserted after the bus park was shifted to a new location.

The new bus park, located in the Sundarbasti area, was inaugurated on Ashar 13, 2083, by the Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City. However, it took some time for the public transportation operators to start using the new facility.

According to Khagendra Khadka, the focal person for the bus park, the new facility is now operational, thanks to the coordination between the traffic police, Nepal Police, transportation operators, and the sub-metropolitan city.

The old bus park in Bhanchok was one of the most congested in the country, with over 50 years of history. It was built to accommodate a dozen public transportation vehicles but had become overcrowded due to the increasing number of vehicles and passengers.

The new bus park has a capacity to accommodate 38 large buses and 18 smaller vehicles like jeeps, Land Rovers, and taxis at a time.

While the new bus park has eased the traffic congestion in the area, the local business community is concerned about the impact on their businesses.

The construction of the new bus park was completed at a cost of Rs 24.86 million, with the sub-metropolitan city contributing 50% of the budget and the rest coming from the government’s supplementary grant.

The operation of the new bus park has been contracted to Brothers Traders, a company owned by Suman Rai of Itahari, for an annual fee of Rs 1.2 million.
