The world’s largest Shaligram stone, located at the confluence of Parvat, Syangja, and Gulmi districts, has been submerged due to flooding. The stone, which is considered sacred, has been underwater for two days due to the continuous rainfall that has caused the water level of the Kaligandaki River and Setikhola to rise.
According to Kulraj Tiwari, the guardian of Shaligram Vidhyashram, the stone was submerged due to the increased water flow of the Kaligandaki River. The path leading to the stone, as well as the nearby Satral and Parikrama Sthal, have also been submerged.
The priests and pundits who were performing daily puja and rituals at the stone have been displaced, and devotees who come to visit the stone have been unable to do so. The Setiveni market, which is located near the stone, is also at risk of flooding due to the increased water flow of the Kaligandaki River and Setikhola.
The local residents are concerned about the safety of the stone and the market, and are demanding that the government take necessary measures to protect the area. The chairman of Galayang Municipality-5, Ghanshyam Bhattarai, stated that the risk of flooding will continue until the water flow of the Kaligandaki River is changed.
The Shaligram stone is not only a sacred site but also a tourist attraction, and its submergence has caused concern among the local residents and business owners. The government has been urged to take necessary measures to protect the stone and the surrounding area.
