The Ministry of Education and Sports has taken action against a teacher who abused a student at Khawaling School in Baudha, Kathmandu.
The incident came to light after a video of the teacher, Sona Rana, physically abusing a fourth-grade student was made public on social media.
Minister of Education, Sasmith Pokharel, met with the victim, the school’s management, and the principal on Tuesday to discuss the incident.
Minister Pokharel also met with the victim privately and provided them with sports equipment, encouraging them to focus on their studies and sports.
He assured the victim that the ministry would take necessary legal action against the teacher if needed and also instructed the school to make sure the teacher did not have any psychological impact on the student.
The minister also urged the school to provide necessary training to teachers to prevent such incidents in the future.
According to the school’s principal, Sunil Rana, the teacher was expelled from the school in Jestha (May-June) last year.
The ministry has taken action against the teacher, even though the incident occurred a year ago, to prevent such incidents from happening again.
