Two people have lost their lives in a vehicle accident involving a Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Scorpio in Itahari, Sunsari. The incident occurred on Sunday night near the Sewti Bridge on the Koshi Highway.
The deceased have been identified as 33-year-old driver Birkhabahadur Rai from Dharan-13 and 49-year-old technical employee Suman Acharya from Dharan-16. They were on their way to repair a technical issue on the Duhbi-Dharan 33 KV transmission line when the accident occurred around 11 pm.
Both Rai and Acharya were seriously injured in the accident and were rushed to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for treatment. However, they were declared dead by the doctors. Another NEA employee, 32-year-old Padam Rai, was also injured in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital. His condition is reported to be normal.
According to Hariram Pokharel, chief of the NEA’s Dharan branch, the team was dispatched to repair the transmission line after a problem was reported at 9:54 pm on Sunday. ‘The employees were on duty when the accident occurred,’ he said.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the police.
