Nepal’s government has been promising to create jobs and end the need for foreign employment, but the reality on the ground tells a different story. Despite the promises, the country’s youth are still struggling to find employment, leading some to take drastic measures.
Recently, two young men, Ganesh Nepal and Vivek Mandal, took their own lives due to unemployment and financial struggles. Nepal, a 25-year-old from Muguk, had been preparing for the civil service exam while also trying to find work abroad. Mandal, a 35-year-old from Sarlahi, had been working as a contract teacher but had to quit due to financial difficulties.
Their stories are not isolated incidents. Many young Nepalis are facing similar struggles, and the government’s promises have not translated into tangible results. The government has been saying that it will create jobs and provide employment opportunities, but the reality is that many young people are still forced to look for work abroad.
According to data from the Department of Foreign Employment, the number of Nepalis going abroad for work has not decreased significantly since the government came to power. In fact, the data shows that the number of new workers going abroad has decreased, but the number of those returning to work abroad has increased.
The government’s promises of creating jobs and providing employment opportunities have not been met, and the youth are losing hope. The government needs to take concrete steps to address the issue of unemployment and provide opportunities for young people to find work and build a better future.
Raksha Bham, a leader of the Jan Jagaran movement, said that the government has failed to create a conducive environment for young people to find work and build a better future. She said that the government’s actions have only increased the sense of despair among young people.
The government needs to take immediate action to address the issue of unemployment and provide opportunities for young people to find work and build a better future. This includes creating jobs, providing training and skills development programs, and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.
