Landless Sukumbasi and displaced families have sought help from the National Human Rights Commission. A delegation led by Dalmar Dan Kami, Pramila Rai, Jhawar Lal Uraw, Kalpana Thapa, Neer Kumar Magar, Ram Kumari Rai, Kamala Uraw, and Gopal Majhi, among others, met with the Commission’s Chairman, Tap Bahadur Magar, on Tuesday and presented their grievances.
The delegation handed over a petition to Chairman Magar, who assured them that the Commission would study the issue and make necessary recommendations to the concerned authorities. The Chairman also mentioned that the Commission had already raised its voice for the protection of human rights of the affected families and would continue to do so.
The delegation, led by Dalmar Dan Kami, informed the Commission about the real situation of the landless Sukumbasi and displaced families living in the holding center, the discrimination they faced in relief distribution, the lack of dignified housing, and the protection of their constitutional rights to housing and human rights.
The delegation requested the Commission to conduct an on-site investigation, provide necessary instructions, and take initiative for the permanent resettlement of the families, including providing them with land ownership.
