Kathmandu. The operator of Annapurna Sugar Mill in Sarlahi has been arrested on charges of not paying Rs 220 million to sugarcane farmers.

Police have arrested Annapurna Sugar Mill operator Shailendra Gupta and his associate Vinod Sah. They were arrested on Ashar 24, 2083, and an investigation has been launched against them on charges of cheating and criminal gain, according to Sarlahi Police Spokesperson Police Naib Sub-Inspector Ved Prasad Gautam.

Sugarcane farmers had filed a complaint against the duo at the police station last year. Annapurna Sugar Mill is accused of not paying Rs 220 million to sugarcane farmers.

“There is an allegation that the mill did not pay the farmers. Currently, it appears that Rs 220 million is due. The process of making public is ongoing,” Gautam said.
