Rastriya Swatantra Party Prepares to Appoint Sudip Dhakal as General Secretary

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is preparing to appoint Sudip Dhakal as its general secretary, a key position in the party. Dhakal, who is currently serving as the chief administrative officer at Prime Minister Balen Shah’s secretariat, has been gaining prominence within the party.

A senior RSP leader close to Prime Minister Shah revealed that Dhakal’s name has been proposed for the general secretary position. The leader stated that the party’s previous general secretary, Bhupdev Shah, may not be given continuity in the same position due to his unsatisfactory performance.

The RSP’s central committee had appointed Bhupdev Shah as general secretary on Baisakh 7, but the party’s constitution allows the chairperson to appoint 11 officials, including the general secretary. The party’s leaders have been working to build internal consensus, but the appointment of nominated central members has been delayed.

According to party sources, the RSP has allocated 18 central member positions to Prime Minister Shah’s faction, with priority given to non-MPs. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has also sought a share in the nominated central members, reportedly demanding seven positions for the ‘JenJi’ age group.
