Nepali Congress Leader Assures Party Unity Amidst Turmoil

Nepali Congress’s former acting president, Puran Bahadur Khadka, has stated that he will never compromise on party dignity.

Speaking at an event organized by the BP Smriti group on the occasion of the party’s founding anniversary, Khadka expressed his concerns about party unity.

He claimed that party president Gagan Kumar Thapa is not willing to unite the party, and that the party’s leadership, including Thapa, has not paid attention to the efforts of the reconciliation faction.

Khadka emphasized that no one in the party is inactive and that they are ready to protect the youth and move forward with them.

‘Do not be misled,’ he said. ‘These leaders are trying to be something they are not. The Nepali Congress has reached a critical juncture for the first time since its establishment. We have fought for dignity even during the Panchayat era. We are not willing to compromise on dignity, even if it means death.’

Khadka also expressed his dissatisfaction with the bargaining tactics used for party unity.

‘We are willing to accept the special general convention,’ he said. ‘But is it bargaining to ask Gaganji to lead the party and unite the 14th central committee?’

Khadka also commented that the special general convention was against the party’s constitution.

Furthermore, he stated that it is impossible for party president Gagan Kumar Thapa to unite the party by combining 54% of the special general convention and 46% of the regular general convention.
