Nepali Congress Establishes Humanitarian Fund with 1 Million Rupees

Nepali Congress has established a ‘Humanitarian Welfare Fund’ using a portion of the membership fees collected from party members.

Congress President Gagan Thapa announced the establishment of the fund during the ‘Green Run’ event organized on Wednesday, on the occasion of BP Koirala’s memorial day.

According to Thapa, the fund has initially collected 1 million rupees, which will be used to support displaced families in Sukumbasi, especially single women and children who are out of school.

‘From today, we have decided to establish a humanitarian welfare fund using the amount collected by party members as membership fees,’ Thapa said during the event.

He also stated that volunteers from the Nepal Women’s Association will be involved in managing the fund and distributing assistance to those in need.

Representatives from the women’s association will visit affected areas to identify needs and distribute support, Thapa informed.

He also called on the youth wing and other interested volunteers to join the initiative.

Thapa said the ‘Green Run’ event was organized not only to raise awareness about climate change but also to mark the beginning of social responsibility.

Congress will move forward with policies and programs to make climate change a major agenda for Nepal’s development, he said.

Thapa recalled BP Koirala’s concept of inclusive democracy and fair access to natural resources during his time, stating that there is still a need to learn from those ideas.

He apologized to the participants for the weaknesses in management, as the number of participants exceeded expectations.

Thapa expressed his commitment to making future events more organized.

Meanwhile, Thapa announced that the Congress will launch a new nationwide campaign from Thursday, and detailed information will be made public tomorrow.
