The Medicine Price Monitoring Committee has proposed adjusting the prices of medicines in Nepal based on the current prices in the Indian market.
The proposal was made during a meeting of the committee, which was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Department of Drug Administration, and the Nepal Pharmaceutical Association.
The committee has suggested that the prices of medicines in Nepal should be adjusted based on the prices set by the Indian drug regulatory authority, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).
According to the proposal, the prices of 70-75 types of medicines will be adjusted in the first phase, and the prices of other medicines will be adjusted later based on the international market prices.
The proposal has been made to address the shortage of certain medicines in the market, particularly those used for cancer treatment.
The committee has also suggested that the prices of medicines should be adjusted automatically based on the international market prices, rather than being fixed by the government.
The proposal will now be sent to the Ministry of Health for approval.
It is expected that the adjustment in medicine prices will make them more affordable for patients and will also encourage the import of medicines from other countries.
