Nepal’s Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has warned officials that they will face strict action if found taking bribes from service recipients in the name of facilitating services.
During a meeting with employees at the District Administration Office in Gorkha on Friday, Minister Gurung said he would personally take action against anyone found guilty of bribery.
‘If I hear that a middleman has come here to facilitate work or that citizenship can be obtained by paying a little money, I will personally take action,’ Minister Gurung said, ‘I was given power to ensure good governance, so there will be no excuses.’
One-Door System to be Inspected
Minister Gurung also said that he would inspect the implementation of the one-door system, which aims to provide services to citizens in a hassle-free manner.
‘If the one-door system is not implemented in the home district of the Home Minister, it will be difficult to implement it elsewhere,’ he said, ‘I will inspect this tomorrow, and action will be taken accordingly if any gaps are found.’
Minister Gurung also emphasized that citizens’ work should be completed within 15 minutes, and that employees would be evaluated based on this criterion.
‘Citizens’ work should be completed within 15 minutes, and the service process should be completed,’ he said, ‘If it takes 16 minutes instead of 15, I will not compromise.’
Minister Gurung also directed the Chief District Officer to install CCTV cameras with audio recording facilities to monitor the work of employees from Kathmandu.
