Nepali Congress leader Mohan Baidya has announced plans to form a new party today, marking a significant shift in the country’s political landscape.

Speaking at a function organized to mark the 44th BP Memorial Day, Baidya stated that the time for unity talks is over, and it is now time to take action.

‘They will be holding their ward conventions from Bhadra 2, but we cannot just sit around talking about unity,’ he said, ‘We must make an announcement today and start the process of forming a new party.’

Baidya emphasized that the new party will prioritize inclusivity, with a focus on empowering women, students, and other marginalized groups.

He also took a swipe at Gagan Thapa, saying that the Nepali Congress and pro-democracy forces will not be swayed by his actions.

‘We have said that we must hold our provincial conventions, and then immediately hold a central convention,’ he said, ‘There has been some delay, but today we must make an announcement about the central convention.’

Baidya clarified that the goal is not to split the party, but to create a new one, and that he is committed to building a strong and vibrant political force.

‘We are not trying to weaken the party, but to create a new one,’ he said, ‘We will not be satisfied with being the leader of a weak party, but rather we want to be a strong and active member of a new party.’
