A 9-day-long protest against metered tariffs has been suspended after the victims and the government reached a 9-point agreement.

The agreement, signed on Friday, includes a provision to clear legal hurdles for the victims to receive justice. The agreement also includes forensic lab tests for the victims’ documents, investigation into the source of their properties, and action against money laundering.

The protest, which started on July 12 from Janakpur’s Tritiyagachhi, had reached Bara’s Nijgadh before the agreement was reached. A meeting between Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and the victims’ representatives had agreed to form a talks team in Kathmandu on July 19.

The agreement has brought an end to the ‘Nyay March’ (Justice March) that had been ongoing for the past 9 days.
