Late Nepali Leader Devenra Pandey’s Final Message: ‘Let the Country Succeed’

Nepali civic leader and former minister Dr. Devenra Pandey passed away on Friday.

Pandey, who consistently advocated for policy debates, good governance, and democratic values in public life, had expressed his hopes and suggestions for the government shortly before his demise.

In a social media post on July 2, Pandey mentioned that he might not be able to witness the government’s success or failure, but he wished for the government to succeed.

‘I may not be able to see or experience the success or failure of the Rastriya Swatantra Party/Balen government,’ Pandey wrote, ‘but I want them to succeed. Not for them or me, but for the country.’

Pandey emphasized that mere government changes are insufficient and stressed the need for policy, institutional, and procedural reforms in state governance.

He pointed out that it is essential to focus on the fundamental aspects of the governance system rather than just novelty or disruption.

Pandey noted that the leaders, workers, and close advisors in power are not enough and that the government needs the support of experienced individuals who have a deep understanding of the national and international environment.

‘Friends can be friends and show affection, but they cannot provide the support and facilities the government needs by understanding the national and international environment and having long-term vision and policy-making skills,’ he wrote.

Pandey urged the government to seek the support of capable, experienced, and visionary individuals to address this shortage.

In the end, he wrote, ‘Fill this gap. Make the government successful, make yourself successful, and make the country successful.’
