Heavy Rain and Landslides Disrupt Transportation Across Nepal

Nepal’s continuous rainfall has led to landslides and flooding, severely impacting the country’s major highways and roads.

According to the Nepal Police, nine roads have been completely blocked due to the landslides and flooding. The BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli has been closed from 6 pm to 4 am due to the risk of potential flooding.

The Kanti Lokpath has also been closed from 5 pm to 5 am due to the heavy rainfall. The Mechi Highway in Ilam has been completely blocked after a landslide occurred in the area.

Blocked Roads

The Arniko Highway in Sindhupalchok’s Bhotekoshi and Kodari areas has been completely blocked due to landslides. Other roads that have been completely blocked include the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung, the Ghoraahi-Thawang Sahid Highway in Rolpa, the Nagm-Gamgadi road in Mugu, the Pasang Lhamu road in Rasuwa, the Madhyapahadi Highway in Achham, and the Besisahar-Chame-Manang road in Lamjung.

In Dolakha, the Lamasaanghu-Ramechhap road was blocked due to the Tamakoshi River’s erosion, but an alternative route has been established through the Khimti Rural Electricity Cooperative’s office premises.
