Floods Hit Gaurishankar in Dolakha, One Missing, Four at Risk

A flood in the Gaurishankar municipality of Dolakha has left one elderly person missing and four others in a precarious situation.

The flood, which occurred in the Sipring stream in Gaurishankar municipality-9 on Tuesday night, swept away a 73-year-old local resident, Chasaman Tamang.

Four others are stranded in a risky location, according to Ngimgeli Sherpa, chairman of Gaurishankar municipality ward no. 9.

Sherpa said that Chasaman’s cowshed was also washed away by the flood.

Additionally, four employees of the Sipring stream hydroelectric project – Sukdev Shrestha, Suryabahadur Tamang, Kalyan Vik, and Vinod Shrestha – are stuck on a cliff and their location is also insecure, Sherpa said.

The chairman added that the continuous flooding in the stream has made it difficult to rescue them.

District Police Office Dolakha chief DSP Manoj Lama said that police have been dispatched to the scene.

‘Police are on their way to the scene from Singati and Rolwaling,’ Lama said.

According to Lama, it will take some time for the police to reach the scene due to the remote location and the need to travel on foot.

Lama said that more information will be provided once the police reach the scene.

Locals claim that the flood has damaged the dam side of the Sipring stream hydroelectric project and has caused erosion on both sides of the stream.
