Argentina’s Messi Reacts to Loss Against Spain, ‘They Were Better Than Us’

New York. Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi was emotional after his team lost to Spain in the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Despite his efforts, Messi could not lead his team to victory, and Spain won the match 1-0 in extra time. The goal was scored by Ferran Torres in the 37th second of the second half of extra time.

Argentina’s coach Lionel Scaloni praised Messi, saying, ‘I hope everyone is proud of him and his achievements, because he is the best footballer to have played on the field.’

Spain dominated the game, with 20 shots on goal compared to Argentina’s two. Spain also had 845 passes, while Argentina had 433.

Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente said his team’s strategy was to control Messi, who had only 54 touches on the ball throughout the game and did not have any clear scoring opportunities.

Despite his team’s loss, Messi made history by becoming the first player to start in three World Cup finals and increasing his international goal tally to 125.

After the match, Spain’s players consoled Messi, and he received a ‘guard of honor’ from the Spanish team as he walked off the field.

Spain is now the first country to win both the men’s and women’s World Cup titles simultaneously.
