Tehran. The US military has launched strikes on several bridges in Iran’s Hormozgan province, according to Iranian state media.

Most of the targeted bridges are located on roads connecting to the port city of Bandar Abbas, which is home to a major naval base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Fars news agency reported, citing the governor’s office of Hormozgan province.

Earlier, Fars reported that a railway junction in Bandar Abbas was also hit by the US strikes.

Iran’s Ministry of Energy has confirmed that power transmission lines in Bandar Abbas and surrounding villages were damaged, semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

Iranian state TV IRIB released images showing the damaged Kahurstan bridge, which connects Bandar Abbas to Shiraz. The images were verified by CNN.

At least seven people were killed and nine injured in the strikes, according to Iranian state media. However, CNN could not independently verify these claims.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

US President Donald Trump had previously threatened to target Iranian bridges and power infrastructure if Tehran refused to negotiate.
