Tensions between the US and Iran have continued to escalate, with the US military launching airstrikes on Iranian military targets. Iran has retaliated by attacking US military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan.
In a separate incident, two oil tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the death of one Indian national and injuring 10 others. India has lodged a formal protest with Iran over the incident.
The increased security risk has led to a significant decrease in ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, 11 ships and 148 Indian sailors are currently stranded in the Persian Gulf region.
International shipping companies have also limited their operations through the Strait of Hormuz, citing concerns over the safety of their crew members.
