Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is facing renewed criticism after a 2003 video surfaced showing him inviting 12-year-old actress Daveigh Chase to an after-party following the MTV Movie Awards.
Chase, who was best known for her roles in The Ring and Lilo & Stitch, died on June 16 at the age of 35. A Los Angeles medical examiner’s report later confirmed that she died from AIDS, with other significant conditions including chronic polysubstance use.
The video, which was taken backstage at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards, shows Combs asking Chase if she would like to attend his after-party. Chase appears to nod in response, before Combs bursts into laughter.
Combs and Chase had previously interacted on stage at the awards ceremony, where he presented her with the Best Villain Award for her role in The Ring. The two were also photographed together at the VH1’s Big in ’03 Awards.
Combs’ Past Controversies
Combs has faced several controversies in recent years, including a federal trial in 2025 where he was convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution. He is currently serving a 50-month federal prison sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
The resurfacing of the 2003 video has sparked renewed scrutiny of Combs’ interaction with Chase, with many taking to social media to express their outrage. Some have called for Combs to face further consequences for his actions, while others have criticized the adults who were present at the time for not intervening.
