Rasuwa. The construction of the dry port in Timure, Rasuwa, has been stalled for over a year after the floods in the Lhende River affected the area for six months.
The construction of the port, which was started in 2076 Mangsir with an investment of Rs 2.16 billion from the Chinese government, was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although 80% of the construction work was completed, the floods caused damage to the warehouse, embankment, and parking area.
The Chinese company responsible for the construction has not resumed work, and the Nepalese government has not taken any initiative to continue the project. The Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee is responsible for overseeing the construction of the port, but it has not made any decisions on how to proceed.
Two options are being considered to complete the construction of the port. The first option is to coordinate with the Chinese government and have the Chinese company resume work. The second option is for the Nepalese government to take over the construction of the port.
The floods also caused damage to the customs office, check post, and other infrastructure in the area. The customs office has been temporarily relocated to a nearby area, and the check post has been shifted to a temporary location.
The construction of the port was expected to be completed within 30 months, but it has been stalled for over a year. The project has been plagued by delays and setbacks, and it is unclear when it will be completed.
