A jersey worn by Brazilian football legend Pelé in the 1958 World Cup Final has been sold for $4.9 million at an auction in New York.
The sale, conducted by Sotheby’s auction house, marks one of the highest prices paid for a piece of football memorabilia in history.
Pelé, then just 17 years old, scored two goals in the 1958 World Cup Final, helping Brazil secure a 5-2 victory over Sweden.
The jersey, which has been in the possession of a private collector for many years, is a rare piece of football history.
