A no-confidence motion has been filed against Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel.
The motion was registered at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Thursday. The motion has been signed by lawmakers from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and the Nepali Congress.
Eleven NCP lawmakers and five Nepali Congress lawmakers have signed the motion. The NCP lawmakers who signed the motion include Mangal Bahadur Shahi, Rajkumar Sharma, Krishna Bahadur JC, Urmila Vishwakarma, Kalyani Khadka, Jumkit Lama, Veer Bahadur Shahi, Bhim Prakash Sharma, Mahendra KC, Milan Khadka, and Roka and Ran Singh Pariyar.
The Nepali Congress lawmakers who signed the motion include Hikmat Bahadur Vishwa, Vedraj Singh, Suresh Adhikari, Vijaya Buda, and Krishna Kumar BC. Four of the Nepali Congress lawmakers who signed the motion had resigned from their ministerial posts on Wednesday.
According to Article 168 (4) of the Constitution and Rule 152 (2) of the Provincial Assembly Regulations, the no-confidence motion was filed, said NCP Chief Whip Krishna JC.
Similarly, under Article 168 (5) of the Constitution, the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Jivan Bahadur Shahi has been proposed as the new Chief Minister by the two parties.
The four Nepali Congress ministers in the Kandel-led Karnali Province government had submitted their resignations on Wednesday. The Nepali Congress parliamentary party had stated that the resignations were part of its plan to withdraw support from the government.
