Nepal’s Arghakhanchi Seeks 20 Monkey Guards to Protect Crops

Arghakhanchi is seeking to hire 20 monkey guards to protect crops from marauding monkeys in the district.

The Division Forest Office in Arghakhanchi has issued a notice calling for applications for the positions, which will be responsible for monitoring monkey activity, informing farmers of potential threats, and safely relocating the animals from agricultural areas to their natural habitats.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must be permanent residents of the affected areas, be between 18 and 45 years old, and have an interest in forest, wildlife, and biodiversity conservation.

Priority will be given to those with experience in community forest management, nursery management, or similar fields, according to Narayan Dev Bhattarai, chief of the Division Forest Office.

Terms of Employment

The selected monkey guards will be employed for a period of two months, from Shrawan 10 to Ashwin 10, and will receive a monthly salary of 12,500 rupees.

Interested individuals can submit their applications, along with the required documents, within three days of the notice being published.

The initiative aims to reduce the impact of monkey damage on crops, minimize human-wildlife conflict, and promote coexistence, according to Keshav Khadka, information officer at the Division Forest Office.

In recent years, monkeys have caused significant damage to maize, vegetables, and fruit crops in the area, prompting the need for such a program.
