Dr. Govinda KC, a medical education reform activist, has arrived in Dhangadhi and announced that he will begin a hunger strike from Thursday.

Dr. KC, who arrived in Dhangadhi on Wednesday evening, has been staying at a lodge in the city. He has stated that he is going on a hunger strike because the government has not addressed his demands.

Dr. KC’s team has released a press statement outlining five demands, which include the immediate removal of illegal and self-serving appointments made to the Medical Education Commission and the Dharath Chand Medical University.

The demands also include the cancellation of decisions to cut scholarships and increase seats in private colleges without proper criteria and infrastructure.

Dr. KC is also calling for the implementation of the National Medical Education Act, 2018, which aims to make medical education non-profitable, and the implementation of written agreements made with previous governments.

Furthermore, Dr. KC is demanding that the government prioritize the development of infrastructure and services in the far-western region, including Sudurpashchim Province, to reduce the dependence of citizens on neighboring countries for healthcare, education, transportation, and employment.

The fifth demand is for the government to take action against those responsible for the heinous crimes, arson, looting, and destruction that took place on August 6 and 7, 2079, and to conduct an impartial investigation into corruption and crimes committed by high-ranking politicians and officials since 2046 BS.
