A promotional song for the Nepali film ‘Masternee’, starring Durgesh Thapa and Priyanka Karki, has been removed from YouTube following controversy over its lyrics.

The song, titled ‘Taarabajee Lailai’, was criticized for its allegedly derogatory language towards teachers, particularly female educators, and the teaching profession as a whole.

Priyanka Karki and Durgesh Thapa have issued a public apology through social media, stating that they did not intend to disrespect the teaching profession.

The Nepal Teachers’ Association and the Nepal Relief Teachers’ National Committee had also expressed their objections to the song, stating that it had seriously undermined the dignity of teachers and the teaching profession.

‘I have taken very seriously the complaints that some of the words and scenes used in the song have hurt the dignity of respected ‘teachers’ and the personalities associated with them,’ said Priyanka Karki in a statement.

‘While presenting art and entertainment, it was never my or my team’s intention to have a negative impact on the most respected profession and guiding personalities in society. However, I personally and on behalf of my entire team apologize from the heart for any unintentional hurt caused to your feelings.’

The song was released on Ashar 29, 2083, and was met with immediate criticism.
