Nepali Congress has initiated internal discussions on continuing the power-sharing alliance with CPN-UML in Lumbini Province, despite the recent end of their coalition at the federal level.

According to Lumbini Province President of Nepali Congress, Amar Singh Pun, the party is exploring the possibility of maintaining the alliance in Lumbini, following the previous agreement with CPN-UML.

"We are discussing the continuation of the power-sharing alliance in Lumbini, as per our previous agreement with CPN-UML," Pun said in an interview with RatoPati on Friday.

Pun also informed that the party’s central leadership has been briefed about the discussions. "Although the situation has changed in the other six provinces, we believe it is appropriate to continue the alliance with CPN-UML in Lumbini," he added.

In 2081 BS, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML had agreed to form a coalition government in Lumbini Province, with CPN-UML’s Chetanarayan Acharya as the Chief Minister, supported by Nepali Congress.

As per the agreement, Nepali Congress would now get the Chief Minister’s post. Despite the recent end of their coalition at the federal level, both parties are engaged in positive discussions to continue their alliance in Lumbini.
