A town in Nepal has been shut down in protest after arrest warrants were issued for a member of parliament and a mayor. The warrants were issued against Abhishek Pratap Shah, a member of parliament from Kapilvastu-3, and Rajat Pratap Shah, the mayor of Krishnanagar municipality, in connection with a case of attempted murder.
The case was filed by Ritesh Sharma, the president of the Krishnanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who alleged that the MP and the mayor had tried to kill him. Sharma has since gone into hiding.
The police had issued arrest warrants against Sharma and six others in connection with a case of vandalism and obstruction of justice. The incident occurred on Ashar 28, when Sharma and his associates allegedly set fire to a business office in Krishnanagar.
