Nepal to Honor International Medal Winners with Cash Awards

The government has decided to honor Nepali athletes and teams who have won medals in international competitions with cash awards.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday. The Ministry of Education and Sports had proposed the cash awards to honor and encourage athletes who have won medals in international competitions.

Cash Awards to be Given

According to the ministry, a total of Rs 10.51 crore 48 thousand 500 will be given to athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, managers, and physios who have won medals in international competitions.

This is the largest cash award given to athletes in Nepal so far.

Athletes to be Honored

A total of 101 athletes, including medal winners in the 15th World Bodybuilding and Physical Championship-2024, the first Kho-Kho World Cup-2025, the UDB Asian Belt Wrestling-2025, and other international competitions, will be honored with cash awards.

These include four athletes who won medals in the 15th World Bodybuilding and Physical Championship-2024, 18 women and 18 men who won silver medals in the first Kho-Kho World Cup-2025, and three athletes who won bronze medals in the UDB Asian Belt Wrestling-2025.

Additionally, seven women who won bronze medals in the sixth Asian Beach Games-2026, 17 athletes who won gold medals in the ACC Men’s U-16 East Zone Cup-2025, and one athlete who won a bronze medal in the 57th Bodybuilding and Physical Championship-2025 will also be honored.

Other athletes who will be honored include one athlete who won a gold medal in the Asian Pacific Motorsport Championship-2025, nine athletes who won gold and bronze medals in the ISF Gymnasiad-2024, and 20 athletes who won gold medals in the ACC Men’s East Zone Qualifier-2024 and qualified for the World Cup.

The proposal was approved by the Council of Ministers based on the recommendation of the National Sports Council.
