Nepal Scraps Proposed 3% ‘Education Equality Fee’ and ‘Health Equality Fee’

The government has decided not to implement the proposed 3% ‘education equality fee’ and ‘health equality fee’ in the private education and health sectors, following widespread public discontent and criticism.

Prime Minister Walendra Shah made the announcement after consulting with Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, stating that the decision was made to avoid imposing additional financial burdens and disappointment on the general public.

According to Prime Minister Shah, the proposed 3% equality fee was intended to provide better education and health services to citizens in remote and disadvantaged areas, support marginalized and impoverished children, expand health insurance, and generate necessary financial resources to achieve these goals.

However, the government has decided to suspend the implementation of the fee for the time being, citing concerns over the potential impact on the general public.
