A man accused of storming the ‘TODAY’ show and confronting host Craig Melvin has been arrested and charged with hate crimes.
Andrew Truelove, the alleged intruder, was led out of a New York City police precinct in handcuffs on Thursday afternoon, hours after the incident occurred.
According to law enforcement sources, Truelove entered the NBC building at 30 Rock through the ‘TODAY’ plaza, asking staff for Al Roker before turning his attention to Craig Melvin. He allegedly lunged at Melvin while yelling a racial slur.
Truelove made his way into a restricted area, reaching a stairwell near the dressing room area, although it is unclear how far he got. He was detained by staff and security before being arrested by police.
Truelove has been booked on charges including hate crime burglary, hate crime menacing, hate crime criminal trespass, and harassment. Despite the alarming encounter, no one was hurt, and Melvin and Roker were back on camera within 15 minutes without mentioning the incident.
A heavy police presence was seen outside 30 Rock as investigators looked into how the man managed to gain access to the NBC building undetected.
