Lawmakers Express Concern Over Delay in Fast Track Construction

Lawmakers have expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in the construction of the Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track.

During a meeting of the Public Policy and Delegate Legislation Committee of the National Assembly held at Singha Durbar on Monday, lawmakers reviewed the progress of the project in the Madhes and Bagmati provinces.

They stated that the construction work has been slow and it is unlikely to be completed within the next four years.

Concerns Raised

Ranjit Karna, a member of the National Assembly, expressed concern that despite the passage of many years and the declaration of the project as a national pride, the fast track is still incomplete.

He said that although the government has promised to complete the project within four years, the progress on the ground and discussions with the technicians do not indicate that it will be completed within that timeframe.

Similarly, Yuvraj Sharma, another member of the National Assembly, stated that the delay in the construction of the fast track is due to the failure to address the problems that have arisen in a timely manner.

He suggested that the government should take the delay in the construction of the fast track seriously and manage the budget effectively.

Committee’s Findings

The committee had recently conducted a field visit to the Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhes Fast Track, Nagdhunga Tunnel Road, and the Presidential Chure Tarai-Madhes Conservation Program.

Committee Chair Pooja Chaudhary informed that a detailed discussion on the field visit report will be held in the next meeting.

The construction of the Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track has been delayed due to various reasons, including land acquisition and technical issues.

The project, which was initiated in Ashar 29, 2083, aims to connect Kathmandu with the Tarai region and reduce the travel time between the two regions.
